Durango’s Parade of Homes
SM Built is proud and humbled to be a part of Durango, Colorado’s 2022 Parade of Homes, hosted by the Home Builders Association of Southwest Colorado. This event has provided inspiration for us for the past 9 years, but 2022 is our first year to participate as a Home Builder showcasing a new custom home. We hope you’ll stop by and see us at 477 Castle Ridge Drive in Rafter J on September 23rd, 24th or 25th.
About The Home
This project, which we refer to as 477 Castle Ridge, is located at the very top of the Rafter J neighborhood. Don’t be daunted by the washboards on the drive up - the view at the top is worth it! The first noticeable feature is the large solar panel that powers the whole house. Our clients were interested in using solar to reduce their electricity costs and reliance on the grid. In order to create comfortable heat year round, we combined elements of a Passive House (airtightness, thermal insulation, and ventilation strategy) with in-floor heating for excellent energy efficiency and comfort.
The home was designed by the owners and inspired by the dominating La Plata Mountain views. In fact, nearly every room in the house faces the mountains with floor-to-ceiling windows. While the views are impressive, the orientation of the house combined with the heavy spray foam insulation is also strategic to allow for passive solar heating in our Colorado winter.
Other unique features include trimless baseboards and white oak door jambs with a drywall reveal, resulting in a very modern and clean look. As you move through the house, you’ll notice consistency in the color and material choices to encourage a cohesive feel. Custom white oak cabinets with soft-close hardware and dovetail construction adds a natural element in the otherwise calming white and gray color scheme. Large format ceramic tiles mimic the look of concrete but without any unsightly cracks or discoloration.
This house features top-of-the-line appliances by Fisher & Paykel and gorgeous furnishings such as Polywood outdoor seating covered in Sunbrella fabric and a custom made wood and metal dining table.
Stop By!
Come check out this beautiful custom home on September 23rd from 12pm to 9pm, Saturday September 24th from 9am to 5pm, or Sunday September 25th from 9am to 3pm. We look forward to seeing you!
An Introduction to SM Built
Who We Are
\SM Built, LLC is a small, family-run business. We are Patrick and Danielle San Marco, proud residents of Durango, Colorado for the past 10 years. We moved to Durango from Texas when Patrick got an internship with a commercial construction company while finishing his degree in Construction Science and Management from the University of Texas in San Antonio. Although we love our Texas roots, Colorado is truly home!
Like many people who call Durango home, we are avid outdoor enthusiasts. Weekends find us trail running in the La Plata Mountains with our dog Cypress, mountain biking local trails, enjoying a drink with friends downtown, or keeping up with never-ending projects around the house.
Why We Build Houses
Patrick’s extensive experience of 10 years in commercial construction gave him the skills and confidence to manage large, complex projects involving hundreds of moving pieces, ever-changing schedules, and multiple vendors and suppliers while keeping stakeholders up to date and the budget on track. Although he loved his company and team, he has always been motivated by delivering exceptional customer service and attention to quality and details that are not always top priority to large-project stakeholders. This led to the dream of building a company that can focus on the relationship between contractor and client on a much deeper level.
Danielle’s background is more diverse, ranging from recruitment management to patient care, with the common thread being delivering excellent customer service. Her interest in architectural design developed years ago as Patrick and Danielle remodeled their first home in Bayfield and has grown over the years into a passion for new design trends, particularly in modernist, mountain modern, and Japandi styles. She enjoys the interaction with clients and design consultation, because nothing is more satisfying than helping someone create a space that just feels right.
Our Team
Patrick and Danielle could not manage without the help of our amazing team of carpenters, superintendent, and skilled laborers. We are thankful to have dedicated professionals who we rely on day in and day out to show up on projects and get work done. Our guys have impressive backgrounds with skills such as tile installation, deck building, drywall installation and finishing, carpentry, and much more.
In addition to our dedicated team, SM Built has strong relationships with local subcontractors who we can count on for fair pricing and quality work. While it’s always a good idea to bid to multiple subcontractors to ensure good pricing, we generally work with the same group of local companies. It’s important to us to keep our dollars local whenever possible. Using preferred subcontractors also gives our projects priority timing and generally better results, which has a direct impact on the quality of the project for our clients.
